Raising up and releasing the next generation

Raising up and releasing the next generation

I recently had the privilege of speaking at River of Life Church in Greystone Park and Eastlea, Harare as part of the Disciple Nations Series – Real life in Christ, real change in the world.

In Matthew 28, Jesus gave his disciples the following commission:

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The promise to be with us until the very end of the age is a demonstration of his faithfulness. When we zoom out to consider his faithfulness and nature outside of our existence, our minds are blown to see that He is a God who is faithfully committed to sustain His creation and purposes. When we zoom back in to consider our calling, we see that the same faithful God will sustain His purposes through sending us and so we can also respond faithfully and with confidence that He will see it all through.

Raising up and releasing the next generation is not an optional extra but a critical part of our calling. We get to work this out:

  1. together in all our programmes as we raise up and empower leaders to lead.
  2. in families where children are given as a heritage from God and arrows to be launched out as salt and light in this world
  3. in education where we get to be salt and light by influencing a new generation of learners who will unlock Africa’s potential
  4. in the marketplace where we will bridge the gap between young, new ideas and older experience through mentorship and collaboration

Jesus is our best example as He faithfully prayed for future generations on His way to the cross!
